IELTS ACADEMIC & GENERAL TRAINING · INDEPENDENT TUTORING

Personal online preparation for IELTS Academic or General Training: a confirmed test type, a realistic starting point, four language skills, timed practice and actionable feedback. We use the current official test criteria rather than memorised answers.
START WITH THE CORRECT TEST
IELTS Academic or General Training: which should you prepare for?
IELTS Academic is commonly used for university-level study or professional registration; IELTS General Training is commonly used for some migration, employment and below-degree training routes. Both assess Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking; the Listening and Speaking tests are shared while Reading and Writing differ. An immigration route, UKVI requirement or individual university may prescribe a specific test and component bands. Your receiving organisation—not your tutor—determines the accepted test.
I help you confirm the relevant examination preparation requirements using the official IELTS test-type guide. I do not provide immigration, visa or admissions eligibility decisions or book official tests on your behalf.
FOUR SKILLS · ONE INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PLAN
What can we work on in IELTS lessons?
Listening: tracking meaning at real test speed
Work with the official four-part, 40-question Listening format. Practise identifying paraphrases, following speaker corrections, recognising different accents and checking names, numbers and spelling. Timed practice is reviewed for why an answer was missed, not just whether it was right.
Reading: evidence, inference and time management
Build a 60-minute reading approach for the test you actually take. Practise identifying locations of evidence, distinguishing False from Not Given, and adjusting pace for headings, matching, detail and other question types. Academic and General Training use different reading material.
Writing: accurate task response with specific feedback
For Academic Writing Task 1, practise describing relevant trends, comparisons, diagrams or processes. For General Training Writing Task 1, practise purposeful letters with an appropriate tone. For both versions, Task 2 requires a developed essay response. Work on task fulfilment, coherence, vocabulary choice and grammatical accuracy using official scoring descriptions—not inflated mock band claims.
Speaking: clearer answers, not memorised scripts
Practise the three-part interview, extending ideas naturally, organising a short individual talk and explaining opinions. Feedback covers fluency and coherence, lexical resource, grammatical range and accuracy, and pronunciation. Practice with a tutor is not an official IELTS speaking assessment.
HOW PERSONAL PREPARATION WORKS
How do lessons progress?
- Confirm the test and context. Identify Academic, General Training or a relevant UKVI requirement, plus the accepting organisation and deadline.
- Review your current level. Sample the skills you want help with, noting specific errors and time constraints rather than promising an official band.
- Prioritise the gaps. Choose a practical plan for the components affecting your goal.
- Practise deliberately. Use original learning tasks and official sample questions as appropriate; complete short timed sessions.
- Improve with feedback. Review recurring error patterns and apply them to the next attempt.
The exact lesson format, number of sessions, subjects and individual quote are discussed during consultation. Lessons are online first; in-person requests in Egypt may be considered case by case and are not guaranteed.
OFFICIAL FORMAT AT A GLANCE
How long does IELTS take?
The IELTS test is approximately 2 hours 45 minutes across four skills: Listening around 30 minutes, Reading 60 minutes, Writing 60 minutes and Speaking 11–14 minutes. The test delivery mode and answer-transfer arrangements can vary; in March 2026 IELTS announced the transition away from paper-based delivery from mid-2026, with country-specific timing and a limited Writing on Paper option. Always verify the currently available arrangement with an official local provider before booking. Read the official delivery update.
IELTS reports a 0–9 band for each skill and an overall band rounded from the four component scores. A tutor's practice estimate is not an authorised test result; individual institutions and visa programmes set their own acceptance thresholds. See the official IELTS band-score rules.
COMMON QUESTIONS
IELTS preparation questions
Do you teach IELTS Academic and General Training?
Yes. The preparation pathway covers both, with shared Listening and Speaking practice and separate Reading and Writing requirements. The actual test type must match the accepting organisation's rules.
Can you guarantee Band 7 or Band 8?
No. A target can guide practice, but only an official IELTS test gives an actual result. Improvement depends on the learner's starting level, practice, test conditions and performance.
Are these official IELTS classes or examiner sessions?
No. These are independent tutoring sessions. I do not claim certification, affiliation with IELTS, British Council, IDP or Cambridge, or status as a qualified IELTS examiner.
Do you help choose a UKVI test or advise on visas?
I can help interpret the public test formats for English preparation, but an applicant must confirm the precise required test and band with the government or receiving organisation. I do not provide immigration advice.
