Reading comprehension and analysis
Identify the writer's meaning, select evidence, recognise tone and distinguish a supported inference from a guess. Explain why an interpretation is convincing.
ENGLISH · IGCSE · ACADEMIC WRITING
English tutoring that treats reading, analysis and writing as skills students can understand and practise—not just a collection of corrections on a page.
THE LEARNING APPROACH
English lessons can be very different depending on the learner. A school student may need to find evidence in a text, an IGCSE learner may need a more disciplined examination response, and a university student may need help making an argument clear and coherent.
I work on the underlying skill first: understanding the question, selecting relevant ideas, organising them and choosing language that serves the purpose. Feedback focuses on actionable changes that the learner can apply in their next piece of work.
WHAT WE CAN WORK ON
Topic selection follows the learner's actual course, level and starting point.
Identify the writer's meaning, select evidence, recognise tone and distinguish a supported inference from a guess. Explain why an interpretation is convincing.
Preparation respects the specific syllabus route. We may focus on comprehension, summary, directed or extended writing, vocabulary, accuracy or exam response planning as appropriate.
Build a coherent paragraph, organise an essay, make purposeful transitions and revise for clarity. The goal is a stronger writer, not a paragraph memorised from a tutor.
Support with planning and refining reports, essays, research communication and presentations. Students retain authorship of assessed work; tutoring is not assignment writing.
HOW A SESSION WORKS
Sessions can be private, paired or small-group when the learners are suitably matched. Frequency and programme length are agreed personally; financial quotations remain private.
We look closely at the question, marking expectations where provided and a sample of the student's writing.
I demonstrate how to plan, choose evidence, structure a response or revise a weak sentence—and explain the decision.
The learner writes or analyses with lighter support, then receives specific feedback and an achievable next exercise.
QUESTIONS FAMILIES ASK
No. Their assessment objectives and task types can differ. I confirm the exact syllabus before proposing a revision plan.
I can explain feedback, review structure and help you improve your own draft. I won't produce assessed submissions on a student's behalf.
Yes, for selected academic English and research communication goals. Share the assignment brief or skill objective so we can check whether it is a suitable fit.
START WITH A CONVERSATION
Share the subject, year or university module, curriculum and one goal. For a school-age learner, a parent or guardian should make contact. I'll help you understand the next step and provide a personal quote when the fit is clear.
